Dr. Jane Lommel is an expert in the field of human resource management and workforce development. Her current activities include writing lecturing, and consulting in such areas as: workforce development; best practices in recruiting and retention; re-employment of older and displaced workers; tapping underemployed and underutilized workers; and Internet applications in recruitment and job searching. She has many clients within the Fortune 500 companies and speaks to professional associations, workforce investment boards, and business groups on a regular basis.
Jane worked with Hudson Institute on several major projects during the 1990s. She and Workforce 2000 co-author William B. Johnston worked closely on the Human Resources task force of the International Baltic Economic Commission. Continuing her collaboration in the field of human resource development, she served as chief research associate and editor for Richard Judy during the writing of the recently published Workforce 2020. She was the Chief Editor of the Proceedings of Hudsons First Workforce 2020 Conference held in September 1998. She was a co-author of The Future of Mechanical Engineering published by the Association of Mechanical Engineering and The Future of the Vending and Foodservice Industry 1998-2013 published by the National Automatic Merchandising Association. She was one of the lead presenters at the SHRM/Hudson Institute "Winning the War for Talent" in September 2000.
Also, she is the President of Workforce Associates, Inc., a private research and consulting firm. The firm has recently completed major projects for various workforce development boards including those in Palm Beach County (FL), Ocala (FL) and Orange County (CA). Janes other recent clients include Clarian Health Inc.; Columbus Regional Hospital; the Southern Growth Policies Board; Freedom Communications Inc.; National Center for Construction Education and Research; the Council of State Governments; and First Tennessee National Corporation.
Jane has accumulated great experience in both public and business administration. Early in her career, she worked as a VISTA counselor with inter-city youth in Washington D.C.; a trainer in the use of computer-based planning models with Systems Research Group in Toronto; the Director of Human Resources of Planned Parenthood, Canada; and Director of Training for a genetics development firm. For five years, she served as Director of Educational Technology at the Indianapolis Public Schools where she directed the installation of thousands of pieces of computer hardware and software as well as the training of 2,000+ teachers and administrators to use technology effectively. She is the author of the NetWork series of books about using the Internet in a job search, with titles ranging from Maximizing Your Career Resources on the Internet to the forthcoming NetWork for Free Agents. These books are in online and print-on-demand formats.
Her Bachelors degree was from Syracuse University in sociology and demography. Her Masters in Public Administration was from the Maxwell School of Public Affairs at Syracuse University and her doctorate was in Educational Leadership and Technology from Kansas State University. She was a founder of the International School of Indiana and is an active member of the Society for Human Resource Management as well as the International Association of Career Management Professionals.
