Today's NewWork News Web Tip: California Virtual University (Saturday, 8/1/98)
Hundreds of higher educational institutions are beginning to offer online programs for academic credit. One of the most-watched systems is California Virtual University which is now under the control of a foundation made up of the state's various higher education systems as well as a number of hi-tech corporations. According to reports, CVU will be offering at least 1,600 courses and more than 100 complete programs, all online. Many other major institutions are becoming involved in so-called "distance learning" as well, including Britain's Oxford University, Harvard University, and Stanford University, to name only a few.
