You'll need the RealPlayer software, but, if it's not already installed with your browser, you can download and install it free.

Today's NewWork News Web Tip: Resources on the Asian Economic Crisis (Monday, 5/3/99)
If you've wanted someone to explain the Asian contagion to you, you're in luck. Associate Professor of Economics and International Business Nouriel Roubini is on leave from the Stern School of Business at New York University in order to serve as Senior Economist, White House Council of Economic Advisers. However, Professor Roubini isn't too busy to provide a detailed explanation of Asia's financial crisis on this information-rich web site.

Paul Taibl, writing for a group that calls itself Business Executives for National Security, says that not enough is being done to reduce the cost of infrastructure and support in the military establishment so that a larger proportion of available resources can be directed to actual readiness and military operations. The American military should outsource or privatize a greater proportion of its support functions, he says.

The Center for the Study of the Family in Economic Development is part of the RAND Corporation's Labor and Population Program. RAND celebrated its 50th anniversary last year. It was established after the Second World War as one of the first private "think-tanks." RAND and the Hudson Institute are distinguished institutions sharing a distinguished parentage. The legendary Herman Kahn had much to do with inventing both.
