Today's NewWork News Web Tip: Complete Electronic Statistics Textbook (Thursday, 5/2/02)
We're all for spelling "statistics" with an "r" rather than an "s" so that it can be made one of the basic "three r's" in education. In the modern world, we're surrounded by phenomena which are inherently statistical, so trying to discuss these things or make decisions about them without statistics is like trying to deal with pharmacy while leaving out all that stuff about chemistry.
Realistically, the general public is not going to develop a functional understanding of inferential statistics, and most leaders or professionals outside technical fields probably never will either. However, even if only the basic concepts of descriptive statistics--usually only the first few pages of an elementary statistics textbook--were to become "common knowledge," the world would work differently.
But, if you'd like to go beyond the very, very basic, basic, so as to better understand much of what is going on around you, there are no more excuses. Here's the Complete Electronic Statistics Textbook.
