Joan Holman's work experience has been extensive and varied. She is a marketing and public relations consultant, as well as an independent television and video producer. She has worked as a psychotherapist and college psychology instructor, and was Director of Tourism for the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota for six years. She also helped establish the Minneapolis Film Board and contributed to making Minnesota a favored location in the production of Hollywood feature films.

In many parts of the United States, she is best known as the producer of the PBS television program, The Legacy of Achievement, which is also seen in other venues and is available on video cassette.
