October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Here are some examples of organizations devoted to education, prevention, and/or a cure for this disease. Also included are upcoming events:

Breast Cancer Research Foundation. They are offering a BCRF Symposium and Awards Luncheon on Oct. 18th, 2005, at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.

The Estee Lauder Company is actively involved with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in creating awareness and support, and dedicated to beating this disease.

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation has been around for 20 years, and has been a leading catalyst in the fight against breast cancer.

Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade.

10th Annual National Lee Denim Day will be held on October 7th this year.

October 21st is National Mammography Day

Celebrating Life Foundation 10th Annual Breast Cancer Awards Luncheon will be held on Saturday October 8th, Westin Galleria Hotel, Dallas, TX

National Breast Cancer Coalition Strategic Concensus Conference will be held on November 13th to the 15th, at the Ritz Carleton, Philadelphia, PA. The theme of the conference is "Shaping the Future of Biomarker Research in Breast Cancer to Ensure Clinical Relevance"

October is also Family History Month

Upcoming Conferences and Events in October, November and Beyond

Various Women’s Halls of Fame are having awards and inductions ceremonies in the next few months, including:

The Michigan Women’s' Hall of Fame Awards Ceremony, "In Celebration of Women" will be held on Tuesday, October 25th, at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center, East Lansing, MI.

The Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame 12th Annual Event will be celebrated on Thursday, November 3rd, at the Hartford Marriot Downtown. Three women will be inducted: pioneering director Martha Coolidge, artist Helen Frankenthaler, and film legend Rosalind Russell.

The 2006 Colorado Women's Hall of Fame Induction event will be held on Thursday, March 9th, at the Denver Performing Arts Complex. Further details about the event will be announced after the 2006 inductees have been selected.

In California, The Fifth Annual Women's Hall of Fame Induction Dinner will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2006. Nominations for the 2006 Hall of Fame opened in September.

Also in California, the Women of the West: A Multi-cultural, Multi-generational Women's History Networking Conference, will be held from Oct. 6th - 8th, 2005, at Mills College in Oakland.

And, on the same weekend in Sacramento, California, The Older Women’s League (OWL) 25th Anniversary National Conference will be held from Oct 6th - 9th, 2005.

On Saturday, October 8th, at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, the student group "Our Moment" is sponsoring the "Our Generation, Our Responsibility" conference on global inequality.

In addition, the World Health Organization and the California Wellness Foundation are co-sponsoring the Second Milestones of a Global Campaign for Violence Prevention meeting and The California Wellness Foundation Conference on Violence Prevention will be held in San Francisco, California from October 19th - 20th, 2005.

In Texas, the University of Houston Women’s Studies program is sponsoring a conference on 21st Century Motherhood on October 20th through the 22nd. The Keynote speaker is Natalie Angier, New York Times science writer and author of "Woman: an Intimate Geography."

The Women in Sustainable Agriculture Conference 2005 will be held in Burlington, Vermont from October 21st to 23rd. The theme is "A Celebration of Hope and Opportunity."

In Austin, Texas, the Women's Game Conference will be held from October 26th - 27th, 2005.

In London, England, on Wednesday, November 2nd, 2005, there will be a "mass lobby" of Parliament by the Make Poverty History campaign, calling for trade justice, not free trade.

On Thursday, November 3rd, in Houston, Texas, there will be a one-day Women's Global Leadership Conference in Energy and Technology.

Phoenix, AZ, will be the site of the "Work-Life Strategies for Arizona’s 21st Century Workplaces" conference on Tuesday, November 15th. This conference is co-sponsored by The National Council on Family Relations and the Alliance for Work-Life Progress/World at Work.

In New Jersey, the Center for Women's Global Leadership at Rutgers University will hold their "16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence" campaign from November 25th to December 10th, 2005.

From March 16th to the 19th, 2006, the Invest in Aging Conference will be held in Anaheim, California. The theme is Strengthening Families, Communities and Ourselves. This conference is sponsored by the Joint Council on the National Conference on Aging and The American Society on Aging.
